Each institute has its own policy for housing. Most common types of accommodations are:
School-Provided Homestays: A homestay usually consists of a Canadian family hosting a student in their home while the student attends classes in Canada. This includes meals as well as a private, furnished room. (Cost: CDN $ 400 – $ 800 per month)
School-Provided Residence/Dormitory: Many schools have accommodation conveniently located on or near their campuses. There is usually an option of both shared or private rooms and dormitories. (Cost: CDN $ 3000 – $ 7500 per year)
Off Campus Housing: Usually many students share or rent apartments to save costs. Listings of available apartments or homes are published weekly in local newspapers. Rents vary greatly according to the location and time of year. (Cost: CDN $ 250 – $ 700 per month)
PART-TIME JOB
International students are able to work on campus or off campus with or without work permits while completing studies. The Off-Campus Work Permit Program allows certain foreign students to work off campus while completing their studies. To qualify, a student must be a full-time student enrolled at a participating publicly funded post-secondary educational institution or in an approved program at an eligible privately funded institution.
STAY BACK OPTIONS
International students who study for a programme with a minimum duration of 8 months can apply for a work permit under the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP). Students are allowed to stay back in Canada after their studies, the duration depends on the duration of the program. If the study period is less than 2 yrs, then the stay back will be equal to the duration of the course and if the program is 2 years or more than 2 yrs then the stay back will be 3 yrs.
