Higher Education in Sweden is offered at 2 types of Universities

  1. Universitet:These universities are research-oriented and offer bachelor’s, master’s, and doctor’s degrees in all academic fields
  2. Högskola (university or university college): These Universities are more focused on applied sciences, and only have limited rights granting doctor’s degrees

The main requirement for admission to a bachelors program is a secondary-school diploma at the appropriate level. For admission to a master’s degree program, applicants must at least hold a bachelor degree or its equivalent.

  • xIELTS and TOEFL are commonly accepted language tests. The required scores are at least 550 (paper based) or 213 (computer based) for TOEFL. For IELTS a score of at least 6 is required.
  • GMAT is required for certain Business School
  • In order to study in Sweden, student should apply for a residence permit. To be considered eligible for a residence permit, admission to a full-time study program at a university has to be presented.
  • Upon payment of the first installment of the tuition fee students have submit the visa application at the Swedish Visa Application Centre
  • The Swedish Migration Board prioritizes the processing of applications where all the details are filled in and all the necessary documents are included.
  • This means that, if students send everything that is required together with the application, they will receive a decision faster.
  • Insurance: Travel health Insurance is a must at the time of applying to Visa and upon arrival in Sweden Health insurance is mandatory
  • Many universities offer housing services for international students; they choose to live in a student residence hall, also known as a dormitory, or in a building of student flats. Student flats usually include two to four bedrooms along with a shared living room, kitchen and toilet.
  • If students are unable to find housing through university, or if the options available don’t suit them, finding a room or flat on the private market is a good option.

PART-TIME JOB

International students in Sweden are allowed to work alongside their studies. Although there is no official limitation on the amount of hours students are allowed to work, priority is unsurprisingly expected to be given to studies. Universities have help desks which assist students in finding part time jobs during studies. Universities also guide students with respect to preparing CV’s & handling interviews at job fairs.

STAY BACK OPTIONS

Students must receive an offer of employment and have to apply for a work permit before their study permit expires, as there is no additional time given to apply. It is possible to receive a work permit and work if students meet certain conditions.
